Impressions from November & December 2014 : a personal project

Firstly, let me wish you a Happy New Year and all the very best for 2015!

As I take a moment to look back through the many photos I’ve taken over the last couple of months, I’m reminded of lots of great memories. Here’s my selection of ‘impressions‘ for November and December, and a little peek into our world…

[1] Lea, 3 weeks old
*snigger* I just love her crazy ‘what on earth is that?’ expression! ;-)

[2] Scheveningen Sunset
Winter brings such beautiful skies at sunset! One day soon i’m going to miss the view from this window….

[3] Hello little one! Lea, 5 weeks old
She’s already curious about the camera and wondering why I keep disappearing behind it! How she has changed in the last weeks… it always amazes me how quickly babies change and grow! Just want to kiss those sweet cheeks – all the time!

[4] Storytime
My collection of sweet sister moments is growing. Oh, it makes my heart so happy!

[5] The morning after the night before!
This photo reminds me of the first time my husband had a night out after Lea was born, leaving me to put both little ones to bed on my own (and at a time when Lea was crying in the evenings from cramps!). Bedtime went surprisingly smoothly; Rebekka (and Lea who was in my arms) fell asleep quickly and easily, so I was soon able to sneak out of the bedroom with Lea. But an hour and a half later, Rebekka’s cough woke her up and she was crying, and then both of them were crying – ugh, what to do! In the end, Rebekka happily enjoyed a late night playing with lego because I didn’t get another opportunity for a calm return to bed until Papa returned home. Rebekka’s lego creation was still there the next morning, a tall tower, surrounded by all the animals and lego people, a reminder of the night before.

[6] Pink water and chocolate cake!
A celebratory drink of what Rebekka calls her “pink water” and a delicious slice of chocolate fudge brownie. The clue is in the water which was given to us by Mevrouw de Aankoopmakelaar. Wondering what we were celebrating? We bought a house!! Yay! *happy dance* So exciting! :-) :-) :-)

[7] Painting a Christmas bauble
That face! I love how she’s concentrating on her painting… and the finished result was really pretty! :-)

[8] Christmas at Grandma and Grandad’s house
Unfortunately, we were struck down with the flu and colds the entire time we were in the UK, and Rebekka had high fever and a respiratory tract infection which landed us in A&E on Boxing Day, she was so unwell, poor thing. Only Lea managed to escape the lurgies! Despite all the sickness and the doctor and hospital visits, it was so nice to spend time with family and for Rebekka to play with her cousins. We miss them! Next time we visit, I’m hoping we will all be healthy!

I was trying not to include iPhone photos in my selection, but the truth is that many of my favourite photos are taken with my phone. Family moments and inspiration strike at any time and the camera that’s always with me is the one on my phone. So, I’m cheating a little, here’s an extra 8… this is a selection of images I’ve taken with my iPhone and shared on Instagram over the past couple of months.

Left to right (top row): one of our early selfies as a family of FOUR!, a sunset walk through the dunes, another sunset walk – this time along the boulevard at the beach to the fairytale sculptures (SprookjesBeelden aan Zee), a sleeping Lea – just home from taking Rebekka to the creche and all snug in the Ergobaby newborn insert, (bottom row): a walk in the Scheveningse Bosjes, a cute white house in Scheveningen in the morning light, our annual ‘staircase family photo’ on the ferry crossing over to the UK for Christmas, and lastly, a sweet moment of Rebekka with Denby on Boxing Day.

Impressions‘ is a creative project by an eclectic group of female photographers from around the globe. We aim to share the inspiration behind what we do through our bi-monthly posts.

Every other month, we will be sharing 8 images that tell the story of what inspired us in the previous weeks: our families, nature, weather, or maybe even work itself! We are free to explore the meaning of ‘impressions’, and it is likely to change month to month.

Say hello in the comments below and then hop on over to see what Leslie Huckey Sarten of Leslie Meadow Photography is sharing this month :-) Then continue clicking through the circle till you make it back here – there are six of us joining in this month, I hope you enjoy all our posts!

With love,
~ Natalie

What lovely images! Too bad that you got sick over Christmas (we were a bit sick ourselves!) but looks like you had a nice time nonetheless!
